Viking refrigerator RDDFF236SS03 no ice, Repair – Mountain View, CA

A client called us with the problem with his Viking refrigerator RDDFF236SS03 no ice. They had some tech before who quoted that it is not repairable and they need to replace the unit. I removed the freezer door, an ice bin to have access to the icemaker. This type of icemakers allows me to test multiple cycles of the icemaker. Such as the water valve water flow, Heating cycle, Harvesting cycle and run all cycles in the same time.

First, I tested the power supply. I pressed door switch and tested if the icemaker gets the power, and it was.

Second I tested the water valve. I put the jumper wire between contact points on the icemaker and water filled the tray. This means one thing that all components for producing the ice were ok, but icemaker itself was defective. This is the common issue for this type of icemakers they usually last for 6-8 years and required the replacement. Manufacturers don’t offer us to buy separate parts. Instead, they sell the whole unit. That’s why I have at least 3-4 icemaker assemblies in my stock, to provide same day repair for my customers.

I explained to the client the source of the problem and offered them the solution. They were a little confused because of last technicians explanations that the unit cannot be replaced. So it took me a little bit afford to explain them in details that repair can be done and there is no need to replace the whole unit. After my explanations, they decide to proceed with the repair.

I removed the defective icemaker and install the brand new unit. I run the test cycle. Icemaker arm started to move clockwise, then it filled up with water. I checked that amount of water in all trays is even. I install rails and icemaker bin back to the freezer.

Another happy customer!
