Viking oven VESO165 no heat, Repair – Brisbane, CA

A customer called us to troubleshoot his built-in Viking oven. The initial problem was Viking oven VESO165 no heat. The owner had ower repair company who quoted for the bake element replacement. So they brought the new element and replace it. But this did not solve the problem. Unit Viking oven still won’t heat up. So the tech from the previous company told the customer that unit is unrepairable. Fortunately, the customer decided to have the second opinion before replacing the expensive Viking oven.

First of all, I decided to check the control board and power supply for the Viking unit. So I removed the door and pulled out the unit from the cabinet. Then I removed the top cover to have access to all internal electronics. And guess what, control board was burned out and had the big hole in it. Also, the electrical wiring was burned out. Probably some wire connector was loose on the control board. This caused overheating and melting down of the control board and surround wiring.

The solution for this case was to replace the bad control board and patch the defective wiring.

Here are the steps I followed during this Viking oven repair:

First I removed the door. Because it is very heavy and also it gives me a better grip for pulling the unit out of the cabinet.

Second, I removed the top cover to have access to internal electronics of this Viking oven.

Third, I disconnect the wiring from the old control board. I reused nondamaged wiring. Damaged ones I cut and install new connectors on them.

Fourth, I removed the old defective control board and install the new one. I connected wiring back and run few testing cycles to make sure that all electronic components are OK and there was no other loose wiring issue.

Finally, I installed the top cover back, slide the unit back to the cabinet and mounted the door back. I run a few baking cycles for this Viking oven and all of them heated up the oven. I the previous repair people were not lazy and tried to remove the oven from the cabinet they could ease find this problem. But they did not do that and almost make the customer replace this expensive Viking oven. Repair cost was just a fraction of what the new units costs.

Another happy customer!
