Sub Zero 532 Freezer not cold, Repair – San Francisco, CA

We received the call from the customer from San Francisco. She complained about Sub Zero 532 Freezer not cold and also big frost build up inside. I came to the customer’s place and start troubleshooting the unit. I found several issues with this Sub Zero 532 unit. The reason why freezer was warm is no airflow through the cold evaporator coil. Airflow is created by the evaporator fan motor. In this specific case, plastic blades were clogged with huge frost build up. Reason to the frost buildup was bad defrosting cycle. After testing of all components responsible for the defrost cycle for Sub Zero 532 freezer, I found faulty parts. These were defrosting timer and defrost limit thermostat. Also, the evaporator fan motor was bad, because of stuck position for a long time in frost.

Based on this information I created a quote and solution for the customer to fix all these problems. I offered to defrost the freezer compartment, replacing the evaporator fan motor, limit thermostat and defrost timer. Because of often issues with these Sub Zero components we keet all these components in stock. In this case, I was able to provide same day repair.

I got the permission for repair from the customer and started the process of the repair.

First of all, I removed the top grille and replaced the defrost timer.

Second I removed all shelves, racks, icemaker, and panels from the freezer. This allowed me to have full access to the evaporator coil and most of the components in the freezer.

Third I defrost all ice buildup inside the Sub Zero 532 Freezer using my steamer. To avoid future problems I also cleaned the drain with steam.

Fourth I replaced the evaporator fan motor and defrost limit thermostat. Also, I bypass the limit thermostat with the jumper and manually run the defrost cycle. This allows me to make sure that all components evolved in the defrost cycle was functioning properly.

Finally, I replaced all defective components, did all necessary testing and put all uninstalled components back to its place.

As a part of the regular maintenance, I also vacuumed condenser coil and clean drain for refrigerator side. Now this Sub Zero 532 Freezer unit is in working condition and well maintained.

Another happy customer!
